For hardball, reliable catching, throwing accuracy, comfort facing baseball pitching and basic game awareness matter. Multiple divisions suggest a range of competitive levels, but placement is a league decision.
Slo-pitch readiness
Slo-pitch still requires catching, throwing, batting and safe baserunning. BRMSA’s 2026 registration form explicitly allowed players to self-rate from excellent to “Never Played Before,” a useful newcomer signal.

- Can you throw and catch safely at game distance?
- Can you move laterally and stop safely?
