Baseball Ontario History & Its Role for Brampton
A concise reference to Baseball Ontario’s 1918 roots and its position as the provincial governing body relevant to Brampton baseball.
Baseball Ontario says it was founded under the name Ontario Baseball Amateur Association at a meeting at Hamilton’s Central YMCA on May 4, 1918.
1918 origin
An official Baseball Ontario page states that the organization was founded as the Ontario Baseball Amateur Association at a Hamilton meeting on May 4, 1918.
Modern role
Baseball Ontario identifies itself as the provincial governing body for baseball in Ontario. For Brampton families, that matters most in areas such as provincial competition, rules, sanctioning and the broader provincial structure.
Name versus continuity
The current brand “Baseball Ontario” should not be projected backward onto every historical document. Where older sources use the Ontario Baseball Amateur Association name, this site preserves that historical terminology.
