11U House League Skills Before Trying Select Baseball
What an 11U Brampton House League player should be learning before considering Select: fundamentals, game awareness, coachability and family readiness.
An 11U player does not need to be “finished” before trying Select. A better readiness test is whether they can perform routine fundamentals reasonably consistently, understand basic game situations, accept coaching and genuinely want more baseball.
Throw and catch reliably
The player should be progressing toward catchable throws at age-appropriate distances and receiving routine throws without fear. Perfect mechanics are not required; usable repeatability is.
Compete in at-bats
Look for balance, pitch tracking, willingness to swing at hittable pitches and the ability to make contact in live situations—not just tee performance.
Understand basic game situations
Know outs, bases, force plays, common defensive responsibilities and basic baserunning. Select baseball adds speed; players benefit when the underlying decisions are already familiar.
Player desire and family readiness
Select can mean more games, tournaments and practice. Readiness is therefore both athletic and practical. A child who does not want additional baseball is not made “more ready” by adult ambition.
